Poetry about Hatfield

(Compiled by Hazel K. Bell)

The Eight Bells, Old Hatfield

An anthology comprising seventeen poems about Hatfield, with illustrations. Some poems date from the 17th century while others were written by more recent Hatfield residents.

The poems are wide and varied. They include a 1607 poem composed by Ben Jonson, a poem castigating the 1610 enclosure of Hatfield Great Wood and other poems that lead us to more modern times, for example the development of Hatfield as a post-WW2 “New Town”, and the verses sung when BAE Systems closed down aircraft production at Hatfield in 1994.
